At Microsoft, there's been a big trend in recent years towards taking the Insights courses on team effectiveness, which always starts with the Insights Discovery self-assessment during which everyone discovers their "Dominate Personality Color." Mine happens to be Fiery Red, so watch out! :-)
I've attached to this post my full Personality Profile from the Insights training that I had taken in November, 2005. I had shared this with my immediate team of SharePoint Technical Product Managers, and I recently posted it on my internal blog at Telligent for all of my colleagues to access. Because I will be much more active at conferences and online (via Twitter, my blog, and various forums) in the foreseeable future, I'm sharing my Personality Profile with the public in case anyone gets upset by what I say or do. My hope is that they'll read my Personality Profile and quickly understand that it was not my intention to offend anyone and that it had much more to do with my personality - the way I am and the approach I take.
I can be quite dogmatic sometimes, and that puts some people off. Moreover, I'm very impatient not because I lack compassion; rather, it's because I'm tremendously passionate about perhaps too many things. I try to optimize, I really do, but I believe in my motto very deeply - that is, Gandhi's quotation, "[You must] Be the change you want to see in the world." Nevertheless, I have learned that it's much better to change (or do) one important thing effectively at a time instead of doing a bunch of things with just mediocre results.
So, I continue to try to strike a balance between all of the things that I care about: my family, my work, and my personal interests. I must admit that it's a tough ongoing challenge, but I guess that's what makes life worthwhile and achieving that balance so gratifying.
